Auction Prices for old VtES Expansions

Last week there were a couple of auctions on EBay for VtES booster and starter displays which are no longer available (at least not in shops or for reasonable prices). The current highlight is the Sabbat expansion with prices over $300 (200€ respectively). All of the prices paid during these auctions are well over the official price White Wolf asked for when the individual expansions were released.

So one could ask if buying today's VtES expansion displays is a reasonable investment for the future? I would definetely deny this .. speculating in this market with only very few buyers (compared with other commodities) cannot be recommenend at all. Maybe in five years from now, VtES is not published anymore, the player community has shrunken dramatically, and the supply on the secondary market is much higher than the demand.
